Omer Causey

OMER CAUSEYMr. Causey is a native of Sarasota, Florida, born in 1948. He graduated from Duke University, Durham, North Carolina in 1970 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. He practiced for seven years as a vocational rehabilitation counselor and earned a Master of Science degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from Florida State University in 1976.

In 1980, Mr. Causey graduated cum laude from Stetson University College of Law, was admitted to the Florida Bar and joined NELSON HESSE, LLP.

Mr. Causey's practice encompasses a wide range of litigation and commercial transactions. Since 1982 Mr. Causey has represented several national cable television operators in franchise matters, acquisitions, litigation and commercial development. Mr. Causey has also represented a variety of computer software developers in connection with business matters, contractual disputes and intellectual property rights, including complex copyright litigation. With the explosion of Internet businesses and e-commerce, Mr. Causey's practice has expanded to encompass these commercial enterprises as well.

Mr. Causey also practices extensively in the field of labor and employment law, including all aspects of workplace discrimination, harassment and retaliation, wage and hour law, OSHA compliance and general human resource operations. He frequently acts as a lecturer and trainer of management staff in personnel-related matters, and a consultant on federal, state and local statutory compliance issues in the labor and employment law arena.

Mr. Causey represented the Board of County Commissioners of Sarasota County, Florida in public utility regulatory and litigation matters from 1981 until 1992, and was Special Counsel for the Sarasota County Public Utilities Advisory Board from 1983 until 1992 in all rate hearings concerning water and wastewater utilities and solid waste franchisees. He has acted as a hearing officer, as a mediator, and as appointed public counsel in solid waste, water and wastewater rate cases. Mr. Causey has represented local governments in acquisitions of utility companies and public and private companies in commercial transactions and before regulatory authorities, including the Florida Public Service Commission.
