Mr. Polk’s primary areas of practice include commercial litigation,insurance litigation, construction litigation, and local government law. Prior to joining Nelson Hesse, Mr. Polk supervised Nationwide Insurance Company’s legal team throughout the State of Florida. In that capacity he oversaw the operation of five offices located throughout the State of Florida and supervised the legal work of over 50 attorneys who litigated cases on behalf of Nationwide and its insureds. Mr. Polk also served as Nationwide’s chief litigator and handled dozens of high exposure trials throughout the State of Florida. Mr. Polk has tried over 100 jury trial and high exposure cases involving both commercial disputes and personal injury claims. Mr. Polk has served the Sarasota community in numerous capacities over the past 20 years, serving as a member of various Boards and has volunteered his time to the Sarasota County Bar Association, outreach programs, and has acted as a volunteer for the Sarasota County YMCA. He has also served as a Judge for the Stetson College of Law’s mock trial competition and has been selected as a Master Emeritus with the Judge John M. Shebb American Inn of Court. Mr. Polk is active as a coach in various youth sports throughout the area, coaching youth football, soccer, and basketball teams. He is also an active parishioner of St. Martha’s Catholic Church. |
Doug Polk
Mr. Polk joined Nelson Hesse, LLP, as a Partner in 2007. He graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 1984 and received his Juris Doctorate degree in 1988 from Florida State University College of Law. He was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1988 and is also admitted to practice in the United State District Court, Middle District of Florida.
